Our dog wouldn’t be here without Squad 51
On a Friday night, our 3 year old golden doodle Dexter decided to eat a few toxic mushrooms while being let out to use the bathroom. Within minutes he was drooling uncontrollably, stumbling over himself, hyperventilating, and having hallucinations. We rushed him to the 24 hour vet where within 5 minutes of being there, the workers told us he had stopped breathing and his heart may have stopped. They were able to get a pulse back and were breathing for him for what ended up being about 12 hours. We knew he needed a ventilator and most importantly some time. The only ventilator in the area was located in Cleveland so we had to figure out a plan to get him there quickly. After hearing about Squad 51, we called as soon as they opened and the phone was answered promptly at 8am. A crew was put together and even though the distance, they arrived quickly to pick up Dexter as he was steadily declining. After transport the receiving hospital stated that everything went well and it sounds like Squad 51 was actually able to stabilize his vitals that were declining at the original vet. He spent the next 2 days in the hospital where the ventilator was crucial in his recovery among other things. I’m happy to say that I’m writing this as he lays on the floor next to me back at home. I have no doubt in my mind that Squad 51 gave him the chance he needed to keep fighting and without them, Dexter wouldn’t still be with us. I can’t say thank you enough!!
